The strong wind make me feel like Mary Poppins! |
Some experiences with this tricky weather destroyed my stupid idea about live in a rainy city could be "romantic".
Experience 1: It's impossible walk around Concepción with an umbrella and arrive at home dry. Really! One time, I took my pink coat and umbrella and went out with a smile in my face. I was happy for the idea of walk round the street in the rain. Well, due to the wind was strong, my umbrella broke and the rain got wet me.
Experience 2: I got a special umbrella. The wind can't break this "super umbrella", even if it's stronger. When I went to the University this umbrella worked well, but I arrived at my destiny totally wet again! The rain here don't fall vertically. The rain go straight to your body and face even if you have "the biggest" umbrella.
Experience 3: My shoes. My old shoes don't work well when it rain (but I look wonderful when I wearing it). I need a special pair of shoes but I really hate this plastics boots that all the stores sell. My first year in Concepción, I didn't have enough money for bought special shoes but I needed be dry, so I wore big heels for avoid the water in my feet. Sometimes, some streets look like huge rivers and neither the highest shoes could help you.
I tried to fall in love with this weather. I found a "pretty" special boots (they aren't so ugly) and got a impermeable. I wear my umbrella yet because protect my lashes to the rain. Is important use a special bag for protect your laptop and don't walk near to the street, the cars don't go slower to avoid splashing water!
If you miss the sunny days, make a chocolate cup and put good music. It's the best for those sad days when the sky cries.
